District Cooking Competition
HALE CUBS WIN THE REINTRODUCED DISTRICT COOKING COMPETITION
July 07 The Cubs District Cooking Competition was resurrected this year, having last been contested in 1998.
Five teams took part:
2nds (Hale),3rds (Scout shop), 4ths (Tongham), 11ths (Weysiders) and 11ths (Gladstonians).
The leaders of each team were sent a list of limited ingredients a couple of weeks before the competition, from which they had to devise a 2 course meal to impress the judges, but still be within the capabilities of a team of 4 cubs, who had one opportunity to practice their skills on a pack night, before having them put to the test.
The leaders were allowed to add one 'magic' ingredient and one fresh vegetable to the list, otherwise all teams had the same ingredients to choose from.
Sam, George S, Simon and Kristian rose to the challenge magnificently, producing a meal of chilli with tacos (our magic ingredient) & Spanish omelette with stewed apple, banana, cream & chocolate drops for pudding.
All the groups were marked on originality, efficiency, safety, presentation, team work and quality; in addition each team had to nominate a team member to take part in a food quiz.
Well done boys - they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and between yourselves and the 2 judges, Paul and Wilf, you nearly polished off the lot and brought home the prize to boot!!
